An IAS Officer

I joined IAS in July, 1975 and was allotted Gujarat cadre. I superannuated as Additional Chief Secretary at the end of October, 2012 and at present am staying in Ahmedabad. I graduated with Economics (Hons.) from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and did my post graduation from Delhi School of Economics. I completed my M.Phil in Economic Planning from University of Glasgow, UK.

As an IAS officer, I held a variety of positions on the regulatory side, development side and in public sector undertakings during my distinguished career of over 37 years. I started my career as a Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Bharuch and went on to become Collector and District Magistrate of Amreli, Director of Prohibition and Excise, Commissioner of Inquires and Additional Development Commissioner. I also served as Commissioner of Relief in Revenue Department and in different capabilities in a number of departments like Agriculture, Social Justice, Panchayat and General Administration. I also worked as a Secretary, Water Supply and as Principal Secretary in the Department of Sports, Youth and Culture. Also served as Manager, Administration in GNFC, Joint CEO of GIDC and Managing Director of Gujarat Handicrafts Corporation and Gusheel.

I retired as Additional Chief Secretary (Planning) after having served in the Planning Department for more than four and half years when I was closely connected with the Gujarat Model of Development.

Post retirement, I have kept my interest in Economics alive and am invited as an expert on Economics, Governance and Planning by various reputed academic institutions. I was also appointed Chairman, Uttar Gujarat Vij Company Limited in October, 2011 and my responsibilities in the energy sector continue after my retirement.

Recently, in July 2013, I was also awarded as a Honorary Rotarian.
